Harrisburg Businesses Collect Food For Kids In Need

HARRISBURG, S.D-Several businesses in harrisburg teamed up today to help kids in their community before the start of the new school year. Their mission was to fill a large school bus full of food. Stores in the Schoeneman’s Strip Mall off Cliff Avenue organized the Back to School Bash. People donated food items in exchange for activities like the bouncy castles. All of the donated food will go to Feeding South Dakota’s backpack program. Many of the businesses just moved into the strip mall in the past couple months. They wanted to do something to not only promote the area — but give back to the community in the process.

“We love having a charity that we can do something for and raise money because of all the kids we know in Harrisburg that feeding South Dakota provides food through the backpack program,” said Organizer, Pam Harris.

Several teachers even got involved and volunteered  in the dunk tank. Over 500 people showed up and organizers say it was a success. They plan to make this an annual event.
