Woman Injured After Stray Bullet Shot Through Apartment Wall

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A 27-year-old Sioux Falls woman was injured over the weekend after a bullet was shot through her apartment wall.

Police say a man was cleaning his gun in his northwest Sioux Falls apartment when it accidentally discharged. The stray bullet went through his wall and into an adjacent bathroom in the apartment next door.

“She ended up going to the hospital to get checked out. She was cleared right away and then released, so no serious injuries. She was hit in the chest are we are not sure if that was pieces of the mirror or the vanity or if that was pieces of the bullet,” said Officer Sam Clemens.

The man was not arrested and police say he will likely not be charged, since the shooting was accidental.
